The Orlando-based bowl game now known as the Cheez-It Bowl originally began in 1990 in Miami, Florida. 11 years later, Florida Citrus Sports acquired the contest and moved it upstate to Central Florida.
The game grew with each successive year in Orlando, at one point posting eight consecutive years of attendance increases (a standing record among bowls).
In the new College Football Playoff era, the bowl matches the top selection from the ACC (inclusive of Notre Dame) outside of the CFP series against the second selection from the Big 12 outside of the CFP series.
In 2020, Cheez-It signed a multi-year agreement with Florida Citrus Sports to become the new title sponsor of the game.
